Halal isn’t just about food and drink!

Often enough we hear of personal care products containing harsh chemicals that could be abrasive to one’s skin. In many cases, the ingredients of said products may not be halal. Oh no! What exactly is halal, and how does it apply for personal care products?

What is Halal?

The definition of Halal according to the Trade Description Order (Usage of the Term “Halal”) 1975 can be simplified to the following:

1. Does not consist of animal parts or substances forbidden by Islamic Law.

2. Equipment, utensils and preparation materials are free from impurities defined by Islamic Law.

In short, it covers day-to-day living and is an overall positive attitude for all human beings. Halal-certification reassures consumers that the products they use are natural, hygienic, ethically manufactured, and animal-cruelty free.

How to obtain a Halal certification?

To gain a halal certificate from JAKIM here in Malaysia, the product will have to consist of halal ingredients and manufactured in factories that abide the Malaysian Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP). Every stage of the product’s manufacturing will be monitored and reviewed. Plus, the certificate will be renewed periodically.

Does halal means it is safe, too?

Of course! However, cosmetics and personal care products would require a certificate from the KKM (Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia/ Malaysian Ministry of Health) as proof. Afraid that you might not find personal care products that are both halal and KKM certified? Look no further, for Mandi has both – and more! Our products boast the halal certification, KKM certification, GMP, Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) and the ISO 9001 : 2008.
